Steven McCrum

Steven McCrum was born in Anaheim California in 1963 where he currently lives today.  He started Piano lessons at age 7, studied Classical Piano privately with various instructors from Chapman College and Jazz Piano at Goldenwest College where arranging, producing and contemporary music were emphasized.
Due to a scheduling error in 7th grade I was accidentally put in band.  Within a couple of weeks the band instructor who was one of the most influential music mentors in my life sent me home with a Baritone Saxophone which I played with much energy.  This of course drove my family insane, brothers and sisters moving out as soon as possible and yes my parents eventually fled the state and rarely visit.”  At Garden Grove High school he was involved in marching and jazz bands, due to his love of soloing and the lack of opportunity to do so on the Baritone Sax, he convinced his shellshocked parents to buy him a Tenor Saxophone and showed up at school with it, announcing to his instructor he was now Tenor Saxophonist.  He complied and found another Bari player.

At age 19 he joined a backup band for a Filipino-has-been crooner in a seedy Downy bar.  He would play in various cover bands in bars and restaurants through the 1980’s.  Probably disgruntled over his parents making him practice the piano all of those years, he took over their old living room and started a recording studio in their Garden Grove house, bringing musician scoundrels and various artists from many cultures to arrange and produce music for, even meeting his future wife Sharon in this setting.  In 1989 he opened up Desert Moon Recording in Whittier then in 1993 moved it to Anaheim.
Desert Moon Recording was an Orange County icon of recording studio’s featuring analog recording and a classic creative environment. It had it’s finger on the pulse of the Orange County music scene, recording many local rock and alternative bands as well rap and hip hop artists and songwriters.  He would produce many projects and albums for artists from cultures and countries across the globe.  He arranged for well known artists in the Persian, Vietnamese, Indonesian and other global music markets.  Due to hard financial times and an impossible environment to run a recording studio in today’s technological time, Desert Moon closed it’s doors in 2009.  He has since focussed his efforts on “Red Sea Traveler”, using many arrangement ideas he has had and many of the cultural rhythms he was exposed to, along with many of his favorite influences he has had throughout his life.
His influences are from the fusion era, including Return to Forever, Jean Luc Ponty, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, Yes, Jethro Tull, Steely Dan, Peter Gabriel, Boston, Toto the wonderful melodic and cinematic piano playing of Dave Grusin and Chick Corea.  The Saxophone players he has enjoyed the most are Tom Scott, Michael Brecker, Clarence Clemons, Wilton Felder of the Crusaders and Grover Washington Jr..  In middle school the Maynard Ferguson Big Band inspired him into the world of Jazz, inspiring him into a style of energetic horn playing.  His cinematic music influences are with Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, and David Newman.  Let’s not forget some of those old guys like Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Frederic Chopin and George Gershwin.

Eric Turner

E. T. began his musical career with two years of classical piano study. Then, he picked up the Guitar and has never put it down since! His first rock band, The Fabulous Tropics, Florida’s number one show band, was a regional hit in the southwest in the sixties. The Tropics won First place at the International Battle of the Bands in Chicago, Illinois. This lead to Eric’s first big record contract with Columbia Records.

Recording at the Columbia Studios in New York City, Eric’s signature guitar work appeared on the Tropics first single, “Time” featured on Dick Clark’s American Band Stand. Many of the bands records were at the top of the charts in Eric’s home state of Florida, and throughout the South. Concert appearances includes shows with The Who, YOUNG RASCALS, PAUL REVERE & the RAIDERS, JAMES BROWN, DAVE CLARK FIVE, NEIL DIAMOND, The McCOYS, YARD BIRDS, DETROIT WHEELS, HERMANS HERMITS, MINDBENDERS, MYSTERIANS, SHONDELS,and VANLLA FUDGE.

The Tropics 30 year reunion occurred in May of 1999 at the Saint Petersburg, Florida Collesium , and some other concerts that year, in Tampa, where thousands had the experience of hearing one of the best guitar players ever to come out of Tampa Florida!

In the seventies, Eric grew to a more progressive form of rock music, and formed his own rock group “BACCHUS” Taking his soaring lead guitar into the recording studio, where he made his own brand of music! After many record releases, BACCHUS was the opening act on concerts featuring GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, FREE, LYNNRD SKYNNRD, BB KING, CACTUS, The OUTLAWS, REDBONE, EDGAR WINTER, and TED NUGENT. Bacchus became a three piece group to be reckoned with and were soon asked to open a concert with MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA. Including an appearance at the Atlanta Pop Festival, Eric Turner began to achieve success, just by playing his guitar!

Upon arriving in California, and after co-writing and recording an album for Atlantic Records with the metal rock group Fortress, Eric began to record the first of fourteen Christian music albums with DARRELL MANSFIELD and DENNY CORRELL. This has produced years of world wide concerts in the ministry, and Eric continues to do so today, by the grace of God. During this time many other Christian albums by various Christian artists were recorded using Eric's signature guitar leads.

As a Producer, Musician, Songwriter and Artist, Eric recently recorded, and co-produced Charlie Souza’s “Live Your Dream” and “9 Ball in the Corner Pocket” CDs. On these two projects, Turner has been able to capture some of his best work! You will also find Eric as the lead artist with former Robin Trower drummer on "The Bill Lordan Experiment" CDs "Here Comes The Storm" and BLX I. Anyone who hears Him play, will agree, E.T. is one of the very best guitar players in Gods Universe!! more......
